Island Press offers summer internship opportunities for students and artists interested in print collaboration and arts administration. Island Press is part of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Summer interns work as assistant printers, helping to edition projects by recent Island Press Visiting Artists including Sonya Kelliher Combs, Stacy Lynn Waddell, and EJ Hauser. Interns also occasionally perform various clerical duties related to the operation of the press. Interns work under the supervision of Tom Reed, master printer, Erin Johnston, post graduate fellow, and Lisa Bulawsky, director.
Internships are unpaid, but interns receive an honorarium of $1000 to help offset living expenses. Honorarium is dispersed following the internship period.
Internship dates: June 1 – June 29, 2026
