Student and Emerging Artist Professional Development Grants

The Mid America Print Council is pleased to offer biennial Student and Emerging Artist Professional Development Grants to support members whose research necessitates travel or registration expenditures.

Submissions for our 2023 cycle are open through December 1.

Applications should not be for travel expenses related to the MAPC Conference. Potential research may include participation in a printmaking workshop, creative research conducted at a printmaking atelier, residency, or other travel necessary to pursue a body of work or investigation of a print-related topic.

Each of the following categories, Undergraduate, Graduate, and Emerging Artist, will be awarded $1000 as a reimbursement.

Recipients will be given the opportunity to present their funded research at the upcoming MAPC Conference in October. As presenters, their conference registration fee will be waived.

Criteria

Individuals must be MAPC members in good standing at the time of application.

Undergraduate Students
Applicant must be enrolled in a BA or BFA program focused on studio art with a demonstrable interest in print media through the portfolio.

Graduate Students
Applicant must be enrolled in an MA or MFA program focused on studio art with a demonstrable interest in print media through the portfolio.

Emerging Artist
Applicant must not be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application. It is to be understood that an emerging printmaker is in the early stages of recognition as a practitioner.

Application Requirements

  • A one-page (500-word) proposal detailing the activities funded by the grant. This includes a description of research-related travel, goals/anticipated project outcomes, a budget, and a timeline.
  • A portfolio of ten images representative of recent work: JPEG files, limit 2 MB. Preference will be given to portfolios that demonstrate a commitment to print media.
  • A brief CV detailing degrees attained, exhibition record, and grant/award history.
  • In place of a CV, students may include a letter of support from a sponsoring faculty member. Recommenders should send an email attachment to the Chair of the Grant Committee at m.robynwall@gmail.com.
