Lecturer in Art & Design (Foundations) (Limited Term Appointment)

 SUMMARY: 

The Department of Art & Design seeks applicants for a limited term faculty position, beginning August 1, 2023.  The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.

The VSU College of the Arts includes the Department of Art & Design, the Department of Music, and the Department of Communication Arts (Communication, Mass Media, Theatre & Dance, and MAIC).  RESPONSIBILITIES 

 This position will be responsible for teaching a full course load — 4/4 (studio courses) in fall/spring — in Art & Design foundations. This position is primarily responsible for teaching courses central to traditional and contemporary foundations (Drawing, Drawing 2, 2D Design, 3D Design, Computers in Art). For “contemporary foundations,” candidates should be prepared to teach courses that are concept forward, technology-based, research-focused, innovative, combine media, and are collaborative. Courses may be delivered in traditional, online, hybrid, and in off-campus formats. Faculty members are expected to make substantive contributions to the Department including department, university, and community service.  

  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Terminal degree in art/design;

Knowledge of skills and practices across multiple studio/design areas;

Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning;  Commitment to diversity and inclusion; 
Expertise in teaching traditional and contemporary foundations;. 
Understanding of industry-standard safety practices and protocols; 

Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage; 
A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds. 
Expertise in working with all levels of undergraduate students.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Studio Arts, Printmaking, Graphic Design, Public Art, Capstone courses (such as Senior Portfolio/Presentation/Exhibition).
